20127 - 13 pieces of obsidian (Nenezi Dağ - 8, East Göllü Dağ 5)
ND - 6 pressure-flaked blade fragments (one notched), 1 non-cortical flake and the medial segment of a projectile (unifacial part-covering retouch).
EGD - 4 pressure-flaked blade fragments (one possibly a broken perforator, backed on both margins, plus a denticulate of Kaletepe obsidian – everything else Kayırlı), one of which slightly wider (1.77cm) indicating more than one pressure-flaking tradition. One non-cortical flake.
Synopsis - overall assemblage fragmentation seems quite in keeping with infilling (with regard to fragmentation and wear); the material seems to lacks any of the special (‘characterful’) objects that one often witnesses being included in the infilling of earlier buildings at Çatalhöyük (for example throughout the Roddy sequence), but this could be a reflection of a relatively small sample size. Technologically and typologically the artefacts are entirely in keeping with what we see in the later strata, directly comparable to TP.M and TP.N for example (yet to work through the other assemblages). Raw material ratio - slightly higher proportion of East Göllü Dağ obsidian, but again a small sample size. |
