Entry: | Priority feedback for 19802 (between wall fill) and 19818 (cluster in 19802) between B.76/80
19802 [fill between walls of B.76 and B.80] - 2 pieces of Nenezi Dağ obsidian
While other between-wall fills have produced special or ‘characterful’ chipped stone objects in the past, neither of these two pieces (a non-cortical flake and a chip) fit into that category. ‘Background noise’ for want of a better term; this is not a chipped stone story, i.e. Does not appear to be a structured / intentional deposition.
19818 [artefact cluster within fill between walls of B.76 and B.80] - 8 pieces of obsidian (6 Nenezi Dağ, 2 East Göllü Dağ)
ND obsidian - exhausted pressure-flaked blade core, 2 p/f blades, 1 non-cortical flake, a much reduced projectile (made on a thick opposed platform blade), plus a large, complete distinctive scraper made on a thick rejuvenation flake from the face of an opposed platform blade core.
EGD obsidian - 1 p/f blade (retouched), 1 non-cortical flake.
Synopsis - the structure of the assemblage is largely in keeping with what one would expect from a South.O context, i.e. Dominance of Nenezi Dağ obsidian / pressure-flaked blade technology. However, with the reduced projectile and the large scraper, we have two of those ‘characterful’ objects that one associates with placed deposits - not least closure deposits and change-of-use deposits. The scraper for example has a good parallel from the floor of B.52 in the North (4040) Area, while used projectiles are a recurrent find within post-retrieval pits. So these two pieces may represent deliberately included artefacts within the infill of the wall. |
