Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: The morning was spent brushing b. 107 to prepare it for 3D photographing. After the photographing, we tried to determine how to best continue excavating the buildings. Our options were to remove the upper phase of the walls (with the dark mortar), to remove the buttresses to better see the walls behind them, or to continue removing the room fill. After some discussing, it was decided to keep what we already had (i.e. buttresses and walls) and to keep removing the room fill (~30 cm) to see if we could find more the lower phase of the walls and buttress. We decided to start in the southeast corner of the room because that had the clearest connection between the upper pass and the lower phase. Soon after beginning digging, we discovered that the lower wall does indeed continue down (both the eastern and the northern). We still have yet to see about the buttress, but I imagine it will continue as well. The room fill is very different from the southwest corner of the room, which contains many large pieces of pottery and even 3 figurines. In the southeast corner is is predominately mud brick rubble with far fewer and smaller finds.
