| Entry: | Really productive day on site with several lab people up helping. We removed a lot of backfill and have clearly revealed the deep sounding. It is a bit irregular but this may only apply to the upper part. Now we have to spend some time removing walls which are really very unsafe due to the sounding. Them we will move on to digging what remains of shrine 8 level X. Today has confirmed what I have been thinking for a while, that I have got my phasing wrong, all my phases have been one phase too late so far this season, ie VII is really VIII and VIII is really IX. There are still some problems with tying this in to our phasing elsewhere but withi shrine 8 thewre can now be little doubt. I hereby retract all, well most, of the nasty things I have said about Mellaart this year, although I am still gnashing my teeth at the lack of plans for shrine 8 in levels IX and X. In general most of what he says has been borne out so far. Shrine 8 level X, our building 18, has been badly truncated but has a couple on nice ovens against the south wall and an enigmatic bin like structure in the north-east.Entered By: Craig Cessford |
