| Entry: | In the morning the clay balls were still on the same spot (18367) in the building 98:-) Fortunately no one visited the site during the night in order to get richer for couple of clay balls. So, I continued with the deciphering the rounded mystery next to the southern buttress. However, for the sake of the team hopes and working tempo, the balls were not spreading all over the southern corner of the B. 98. I extended the area of unit in order to follow eventual placement of clay balls (U. 18369) towards western wall. As it was confirmed later there were no clay balls or other artifacts in this part, so the worries about the eventual hundreds of clay balls which will slow the final process of excavation are gone. But anyway, new significant information emerged. Bellow the clay balls (almost in identical level) a new floor layer appeared suggesting that these rounded objects were in kind of floor ‘sandwich’. Some of the balls, as well as the new floor, were gong almost inside the southern wall which indicates that maybe this wall is built above the ‘new’ floor (which tomorrow will get its unit number). Tomorrow, after the removal of these objects I will confirm or disconfirm hypothesis.
The research on the figurines is going in good directions. More I spend on describing and observing their features more I distinguish the apparent differences which sometimes make difficulties in defining fragmented figurines. I had couple of figurines which were not easy do be defined as human or animal, but after examining their specific attributes I included them in adequate group. For some of the figurines I’m still not sure whether they are belonging to anthropomorphic or zoomorphic, so further insight on the figurines from the east mound will be helpful. Today I should finish with the documentation of human figurines and probably tomorrow I will continue with same work on animal representations. |
