| Entry: | The story with clay balls was about to be finished. I had to take each of those positioned on the floor and leave for future research the ones that are within the wall i.e. fill in the bottom of the wall. The number of the balls was bigger than I expected. There were nearly one hundred clay balls removed from the floor and ten of them still ‘dwelling’ bellow the wall. There are a couple of papers I will read in order to understand more the disposition and use of clay balls in such specific context (in thin layer between two floors). So far, all of them are grouped into one elongated cluster, probably due to sloping floor next to southern wall. Their shapes are mainly oval/round, but there are also several with ellipsoid shape and few with elongated sides (tops). After the removal of the clay balls I continued with taking out the floor (U.18369) in order to determine what’s bellow. Therefore we decided to open new unit (18376) as completely new situation was expected. It should be stressed that bellow this floor mainly animal bones appeared and just one, but specific vessel fragment with fine fabric and red polished slip very similar to Early Neolithic vessels in the Balkans. Tomorrow I go deeper and get new information about the relative chronology of archaeological remains bellow the floors.
Considering the figurines it is noteworthy that I found the documents related with Konya Museum where some of the West Mound figurines are stored. Besides those I have in the West Mound Figurines List (5 + one vessel fragment with human representation) I found three more which are not regarded. Today I’ll check documents for figurines inventory before 1998 if there are possibly few more in the museum. These figurines have photos which can be used for their typological and corporeal features analysis, but also they are in figurines data base which can partially help with determining their possible contexts. |
