Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Second day spent mindlessly removing infilling (4321) which is probably level VIII to level VII in space 159/173. No sign of floors yet and I will probably stop to clean up and record walls some time tomorrow as the western wall is in severe danger of collapsing and probably has two nice features on it which it would be a shame to lose.

Removing the infilling has been a pain because of the 'work'men who have been winding me up no end. Three times out of four when I look up the blokes on the sieve aren’t working so we have a massive backlog, also they aren’t sorting stuff properly and are combining shell with obsidian and clay ball with stone. Ismail has invented a job for himself which involves moving the zembil about half a metre so he probably does about half an hours work a day. They all keep on going off for breaks, despite the fact that none of them are actually working hard, and smoking on the mound which they know isn’t allowed. They are still throwing zembils around in an unsafe manner. These are probably all quite petty things but over time they just build up especially when you are working with the ‘work’men all day long. Gazi in particular is an obnoxious git, like most teenagers, who I frequently feel like thumping or at least shouting at. Hopefully putting these comments down in this diary will be theraputic and help to defuse them in my mind.Entered By: Craig Cessford
