Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Ecce homo! It’s been about a week since a possibly first inhabitant of Building 89 (skeleton 19887) has been exposed. With the help of human remain specialists our team started analyzing and then removing this bundle of skull, vertebrae, bones that has been peacefully resting for thousands of years in B89. Being so close to this young individual (human remains specialist Josh said that he\she was aged 8-12) who lay supine within the North East platform, completely changed my perception of the building I have been excavating for about three years. No longer infinite sequences of sterile infill, colored mashed bricks, pure white plaster collapse, but eventually people, human beings. Moving forward from the mixed feelings that at first come along when digging and recording by all possible means (sketches, digital drawing, laser scanning, image-based modeling, etc.) some human remains I started developing a deeper rationale on the living phase of this big house located in southern part of Catalhoyuk. Who were the people who build this house? How were they feeling while they were putting this young person in the ground beneath their bed? How many are the people who lived here? And also how is that possible that al the other skeletons we have found in the following days just belong to infants or very young individuals? Many of these questions are all but to receive an answer. The only certainty I have is that you, Skeleton 19887, are now one of us.
