Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: A lot of progress has been made today, the buttress is almost on the level of the adjacent wall to the south. On this level I will have the last chance to expose the outline of a brick in this feature, which I already started today. Below this brick there is mostly disturbed soil up to the next buttress. I found several inclusions of phytolith and charcoal, but most of them were too small for a sample. Still, there was one clear layer of phytolith that might even connect with a layer in the wall behind and one structured piece of phytolith which gives the impression that it might be rough textile.
While the charcoal was distributed rather randomly, the phytolith mostly showed at the connection points between the bricks and the plaster.
The plaster itself was also a big issue today, as it seems as if the buttress was plastered before the wall behind it was built, which would change our idea about the stratigraphy. This would also confirm the impression I had today, because while I was digging into the direction of the wall behind, it did not seem to me as if there is a plaster layer between the buttress and the wall. Tomorrow I would like to confirm this and finish the connection to the adjacent wall to the south.
Because of the end of Ramadan, we will only work until lunch, therefore these goals might have to suffice, especially if I find any more inclusions or layers that are worth sampling.
