Excavation Diary Entry

Name: TSK
Team:
Date: 8/11/2013
Entry: Bajram had given us a recess from our usual daily routine in the trench, which made all of us feel motivated about working in the field again, at least as far as I know.
Many members of the team were reassigned in order to have different views on the different units and in order to let everyone experience a different part of the excavation.
In my case, it did not substantially change the nature of my activities as I am now excavating the wall which TMK has been working on before hence my aim is once again to expose the outline of a mudbrick.
Fortunately this proves to be much less annoying than before, as the mortar line is of a much more consistent nature than those in the buttress. After I spent the first hour of the day only arranging everything to get started on my new assignment it was less than thirty minutes until I stumbled into the suprise of the day. Barely escaping the raw force of my pickaxe, an amazing find practically fell into my lap. It was made from bone, formed in the shape of a eight-pointed star with a tiny whole in the middle. This must have centainly been a precious object for anyone, making it hard to imagine how it would end up inside a common mudbrick. The most reasonable explanation might be the use of soil from the east-mound for the production of the bricks, yet on the other hand I also found what appeared to be west-mound pottery in the same unit.
The goal for the rest of the day was to finish exposing the brick, but that will have to wait until tomorrow, though I certainly hope to get it done before breakfast in order to go one step further towards a full section between the three main features in the vicinity.
