Today I finished removing the fill layer 31180. It appeared to be quite thick towards north, and thin towards south. Under it is a plaster layer which is not yet 31174. It has an approximately half oval shape. TET started working with me in the room today, and started making a north south section on the eastern surface. It thus appeared that the layers we are working on (31182, 31181, 31188, 31192) really do have a circular/oval shape. ¾ of their surface is revealed with the section and it makes very nice photos. Under unit 31182 appeared to be another thin brown plaster 31192 and under it was a thick grey-brown fill, 31188. By removing both of them I tried to display the orange layer 31181. It is quite uneven and sometimes not easy to recognize because of the humid earth, but it sticks out when we have an overall view. The ashy spots under (?) it seem to be connected with it, since there were an increasing number of little charcoal spots on/in the layer. The orange layer has a circular shape from what was revealed by doing the two sections. It looks very much like a kind of fire installation, with this orange layer circled by another white plaster layer. I thought it would be 31174, but it might as well be a circular white plaster that is only above or next to 31174. The connection is indeed disturbed by a mimit hole (of course always at the wrong place). This could of course only be a burnt plaster layer, but since it wasn’t present on the slope I would incline for a fire installation. On Saturday we will thus brush it again to see if the burnt surface is more visible, and then go on excavating.
