| Entry: | Review of the last few days - Last week we finally demolished wall F.447.
After taking a two day break, I returned on Monday, and recorded the infill - (4473), which lay above the eastern ‘half’, of the southern ‘half’, of the wall below F.447 - F.467. (F.467. is truncated in the central area by collapse.) After excavating (4473), I numbered and recorded cut 4474 - a shallow, linear north - south cut, which represents the ‘shaving’ down of wall F.467, and slumping - below F.447. On the western half, of the south section of wall F.467, are two cuts - 4476 and 4479. Both have been excavated and recorded. 4476 is a small sub-circular feature - probably a post-hole. There was no obvious scar, or other evidence to support this at a higher level, but we did notice a gap in the plaster, in section, above both these cuts. Personally, I doubt there’s any relationship - the gap seemed too irregular. The same applies to 4479, a larger post-hole?, immediately north of 4476. 4479, had either been truncated by half, to the west, or possibly the western half of the post was free-standing. The infill which overlies the whole surface of the north section of wall F.467, has been numbered - (4477), and I’m presently planning this, along with an east-west wall, intermittently showing up below (4477). I’ve numbered this wall F.482. I understand that infill (4477) covering the whole surface of a wall is unusual, and significant, in that it demonstrates a gap between the demolition of a building, and the ‘shaving’ down of it’s walls, prior to the new upper walls being built - rather than the new walls being built immediately. I will finish this plan tomorrow - Friday, and then will either partly excavate around wall F.482, or move in whichever direction Shahina points me. Finally, if you’re reding this Ian, you might be relieved to know - I’ve successfully managed to relocate the west mound!Entered By: Jez Taylor |
