Excavation Diary Entry

Name: GWN
Team:
Date: 8/19/2013
Entry: Today was the last day of excavating huge unit 31196, probably the largest of my units in this season with the removal of nearly 700 liters of soil. As it in the previous day, the digging was mainly concentrated on the bottom part where the archaeological material was scarce. Below that level there were no findings except the southern area which due to the slope consisted a small number of pottery shards and bones. It is worth to assert that in a particular area of the unit 4 ground stone fragments were determined of which two probably belong to one object.

Although large in the area they occupy the white clayish lumps were removed because there was not any particular construction or outline they created, so they were not associated with the building or new structure. After the complete excavation of the unit area it was decided that the bottom level will be considered as new unit although it does not indicate the appearance of new level or building phase. Also CLC removed the half of the buttresses 5057 and 3326, so a larger rectangular space is open for further excavation. Therefore tomorrow continues the thorough excavation of the surface bellow i.e. unit 31214 which will bring new information of the situation bellow the building 98.
