Excavation Diary Entry

Name: Erik Johansson
Team:
Date: 7/1/2014
Entry: Today I continued to excavate my burial (F7506)and in the fill (30349) we came across a small clay vessel shaped object . It was surrounded by a different coloured soil that was much more compact (30354). It's obvious that it's not a part of the burial fill.

The burail is situated right up against a ca 5 cm thick wall plaster line that goes across our space at ground level. It's probable that it belongs to older architecture underneath. So once the burial is emptied we should be able to see more of the plaster and more of the last floor/make up layers for building 43.

It became very clear that the people who was burying the person in my burial used the old structures from the building underneath as support for the burial pit. That gives you a good idea of the connection the people of catal had with both time and objects.
