| Entry: | Today we exposed more of the cranium and found vertebrae beneath. The human remains team could see that the position of the cranium was strange in relation to the extent of the burial cut. After digging deeper and no more bones were found it became clear that that we thought was burial fill and cut was actually a pit and that the burial extended on the other side of the cranium, partly cutting the plaster from the wall underneath.
The confusion was brought on by the exposed cranium pieces found just at the start of the season and an oval formed depression in the soil. It seemed quite clear that it was a burial. |
