| Entry: | Today we finally reached the floor in unit 21160, the southern part of the side room of building 119. Upon uncovering the floor we found two significant structures near the partition wall on the northern side of the unit. The structures seemed to be a hearth and a storage bin. We thought this was confirmed when we found a large clay ball near to the supposed hearth. However as we cleared awar more infill to reveal more of the floor we realized that the two structures didn’t extend to the floor. Instead they were resting on more infill. Now our theory is that they fell into the building at some point. What we thought would be a space perfect for archaeologic excavation was in reality a space perfect for the daily needs of the people of Catahoyuk. Hopefully through our continued excavation (including the removal of our not hearth) we will better understand these needs. |
