Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: I usually don't do diary entries after 9 pm, but today I closed three features on the same day. Two burials and a pit with an X-find in it that turned out to be natural (says finds) and artifical but unique (says pottery)… I'm not sure what to believe. The object in question was vessel shaped, but small. Almost like a crusible. Also it had an irregular shape. What can be said though about the object is that it is made of clay but unfired. It's probably nothing.

Another thing is the relation between the pit 7506 and the burial 7508. In the field, after been excavating it's quite clear that the pit cuts into the burial. Since the skeleton 30351 hade been pushed up against the wall and the burial wall, it seems unlikely that there allready was a pit there, even if it hade been filled in.

I sometimes find it difficult to transfer the discussion you have in the field (and that usually goes on for some days) to the database or unit sheets. I love the method though, because you similtaneously discuss your way through your unit while you dig it. Maye we should call it "dig-scussion"

There is much to be said about 7506 and 7508, so I think I will spread it out over a few days maybe.
