Entry: | So, continuing the discussion about burial 7508. Yesterday I ended my post with a new term: "digscussion". In Catal we discuss/dig our way through the units. In the case with skeleton 30351 from F7508 we also 3D-modelled our way through.
This was because of the position of skeleton where its upper body was in an upright position. The cranium was on top pf the shoulders and the humeri was almost vertical. The mandible had tumbled down and the upper row of teeth were also to be found a bit below the cranium. At one stage there had to have been a cavity below the cranium for them to fall into. Or, the soft tissue became so loose that they slided downwards.
So, the 3Dmodels were necessary in order to properly plan the skeleton. I think of this method as contextual within context. As human remains specialists and archaeologists themselves divide one unit or skeleton in several layers in order to properly record it. Usually this isn't necessary but in this case it was. |
