Excavation Diary Entry

Name: Allison Mickel
Team:
Date: 7/19/2014
Entry: After a few days MIA, I've begun work again in Building 96, soon to be joined by Jenna! And it's business as usual-- endless removal of squeaky clean floors and their makeup, while the conservation team works hard to reveal the geometric wall painting on f. 4092.

But, hope is in sight-- I believe this floor plaster layer we're revealing beneath u. 20861 will be the last before we tuck into platform f. 3507, which was our goal for the season! It may be as simple as taking plaster from the sides of the platform, since the platform itself is a bit out of phase, but we're really hoping to be able to get a sense of the burials that will lie within the platform and this will bring us one step closer.

I really wish I had some sort of time lapse video of the progress that's been made in Building 96, since it always looks the same-- at some sort of transition between being all grey and all white. Hopefully when we start working on this new platform it will start to transform a little bit! And platform f. 3508 is looking shorter and shorter with every pass… melting before our eyes. Maybe Chris's prediction will come true, and sk. 20853 (whose legs we see right now) will not be "in" the platform at all!
