Entry: | The first couple of days we cleaned our building, checked up on old documentation, placed targets and generated a 3D-model. Basically we are trying to do all pre-documentation steps properly before we excavate. However, when we start it will be a straight forward operation. That is because we are going to excavate and record a wall, an in between wall fill, an earlier wall and remnants of old room infill. The building in question is B17 with a southern section containing walls and fills from B6 and B24, B24 being the latest in the sequence. 29/6 We have now started to excavate the bricks (12071) and mortar (12072) of wall F.511 in space 180, B24. These remnants of buildings have for some reason not been excavated but left hanging out of context and out of pahse. This has made the stratigraphy in this area, particularly the relations between B43, B96, B24 and B97 a bit unclear (see diary posts by EJ from 2014). 30/6 So after excavating the remnants of south wall of B24, we discovered in-between wall fill behind that goes behind the south wall of 6 as well. In order to continue we have to remove old room fill left by Mellaart to clear the east (F486) and south wall (F485) of B6. |
