Entry: Today I excavated the fill of the last bin in Sp. 493. It consisted mostly of burned rubble, probably from the destruction of the building. One thing that was interesting was that I found some large cattlebones, amoung other ribs in the top part of the bin infill. They were clearly burned and must have been exposed to the fire just as the rest of the material. What were they doing in the bin? I was first experimenting with the idea that meat (dried/salted) could have been stored in bins for some reason but soon rejected that idea. For know I see two scenarios; either the meat/bone was depostied as part of an closing procedure (just as the antler and clayballs in the space) or the meat was simply hanging in the roof for storage and drying when the fire occured. I don't know, but I hope to finnd some ore clues to this during my last weeks here.
