Entry: Last day of work in Catal. During this sseason I have encountered a statigraphy more complex than I ever seen before. To figure out the relations between the post-neolithic pits in TPC and the underlaying spaces have been a challenge, not to mention how to intrepret the findings made in unexpected contexts. Catal is a challenge, and that is what makes it fun to work here.
In the beginning of the season I started from the topsoil on a very small area of around 4 sqM. I didn't know much about TPC and the task to combine the two trenches TPC3 and 4 seemed (and still seems) like a unbarable challenge. Now at the end I have together with collegues and students excavated through 3 spaces and begun the work on a fourth. All but one was already partially excvated and it felt nice to have some "backup" from the earlier report and matrix; someone had already done the bulk of the job for me.
During my season I have taken a ridiculus large sample of phytoliths, found stone tools and cattlebones in grain-bins, dug one very large pit and been one of the persons to explore TPC very own (possible) shrine. All of this is good experiences I will take home with me.
This will be my last season here and it feels strange to go home, sudden but also at the same time too late. I think I can summarize this and the last season in the word: "interesting.. "
