| Entry: | Now the new excavation process is beginning. We are focus on some features which are in central room in sp.551. After removed to infill, main room features seem to be strange and they have irregular shape in that space. These are show to us as an abandonment activity in last phase of building. There are lots of pits into floor, some destoreyed platforms, a big and small oven remains in different location, some burial cuts… We shared every features and units between to each team members. First I have excavated a heavily destoreyed platform(F.7814) on the northeast corner of building. This platform had been built on top of an early oven basement. Probably people have used that early oven and after that they decided to change to function of central room. This was a small oven basement and possibly platform size was small. Otherwise if the platform was a wide and larger size, it could be stand on the center of main room. Anyway this corner was so complicated to understand to some remains. Especially on the platform surface, we could define a feature or some deliberate replacament(U.22376) or some collapsed material. It was hard to say, what was it? It seems to be some part of Wall with plastered surface. The location of this unit wasnt understandable because why they replaced this strange deposit or how was it collapsed in a regular way. After removed to this deposit I have excavated patchy plaster surface and make up layer on platform(U.22380) untill the oven basement. And my second job is excavating top itwhich is located western part of central room. Last year we exposed some strange animal bone cluster in floor surface at the that part of building. And this unit was closed to that deposit. This seemed to be as a retrieval post pit but i coulnt convince that idea. According to me this could be some removal activity pit and maybe they removed some interesting features on the wall. Anyway after that job, my third mission is excavating a burial. This job made me so excited because after 2012 excavation season i havent excavate any burial and i coulnt touch any human remains at çatal. Probably this was related with my complaint in 2012. At the that year i have spend whole excavation season with excavated burials but many burials at the north. Totally i, Kasha and Chris have excavated 14 individuals at that season. It took more that 1 month but we got lots of interesting informations about buried practice and of course two obsidian mirrors after Mellaart. Now i was so excited doing this job in B.160. This burial will be first one in that building maybe last person who lived in that building. According to me, the most strange things will start to dig that burial with different feelings than at 2012’s burials. Excavate with love… |
