Entry: An update on recent events. I've been out of circulation dairy-wise for a couple of weeks, trying to keep my paper-work up to date. First thing of note - I excavated infill (4477), which lipped over east-west wall F.482, (Space179). We expected (4477) to also overlie north-south wall F.507. Whether (4477) overlies F.507 is of interest, because it demonstrates a significant gap between it's construction, and that of the wall built immediately above it, (F.447), which is not usually the case. Excavation revealed, that in plan, (4477) only extended up to the western limit of F.507. The flat, linear, 'wall-like' shape, the imprint of F.447, created the false impression that F.507 lay directly beneath, rather than skewed west down to east, and to the east of F.447. However, in section, there still appears to be infill below F.447, which i'll investigate further when we've finished our current project. Excavation of walls F.507 and F.482 was held up, after it was decided that cracking in wall F.497, (the north wall in Space 177 - Building 22), was so severe that we had to excavate it, (which was not originally intended), before it collapsed of it's own accord, probably on top of me. Myself and Nurcan recorded and drew the elevation, and then she, Adnan and Richard demolished most of the wall, while I was taking a day off. Erosion of the upper half of the south face, created the impression that in cross-section, 'half' of the south face had collapsed, leaving a lower step to the north. However, after excavation of a roughly built east-west wall - F.503, (Space115), which lay to the north of F.497, and wall infill deposits (4487), (4488), and constructional debris/make-up deposits (4489), (4490), (4497), (4498), and midden deposit (4491) - all associated with F.503, we can now see that the step is insubstantial. Once we have completely revealed the lower northern limit of F.497, (we still have a small area to finish digging, towards the walls western limit), we will leave this area, and either start excavating in Building 23, Space178, or draw the east-facing elevations in this area and above - walls F.509 and F.506. I'm off to Cyprus on my holiday in a couple of days though, so hopefully i'll get away with that one.Entered By: Jez Taylor
