Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Continue mattocking down the western half of space 181, the two stablings (4850) and (4517) have gone as have two spits of midden (4518) and (4865). An intersting collection of unit numbers as we are working from two different lists, shoul confuse people nicely. Progress is fairly fast if somewhat brutal, one obvious problem is the dry seiving which is massive and the backlog greows dailly. Hopefully soon we will take some time over section drawing, shoring, emptying dseep sounding which will allow for some catching up.

Hopefully we will also be able to have a look at the walls on the western and eastern sides properly. At the moment it looks like the various stablisng deposits abut these but the middens go underneath. This makes a nice story in terms of use of space and could give us a handle on phasing ie stabling = level XI midden = level XII or earlier.

It is good to be making progress although it is turning into a bit of a slog and I am getting more confident that barring problems we will reach natural. I can see it all becoming a bit boring though
if I just spend the next two months hacking.Entered By: Craig Cessford
