Entry: | We seem to have reached the base of the sequence of dumps we have been digging for the last week or so, the lowest being (5323) which has been prioritised. We are still above the alluvial backswamp clay and are digging a quite thick clayey deposit which whilst have some minor banding is basically undifferentiated. This appears to be almost quais-natural, some form of early sequence prior to the later dumping which is probably a mixture of human and natural factors. It still contains clay objects, bone, obsidian and charcoal though not in great quantities. We have been trying to follow the slight changes in this deposit but these are probably quite arbitrary and three spits have been dug so far - (5324 ) / (5325) / (5326). Another couple of spits and we should be down to the alluvial backswamp clay.Entered By: Craig Cessford |
