Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: At 14.17 we finally hit the lake marl at the bottom of space 181. We will have one more day of digging tomorrow but that should just about do it. It looks like everything from (5324) on down is alluvial backswamp clay. (5324) to (5238) are basically very similar while the matrix for (5329) is similar but there were far fewer cultural inclusions. We had animal bone, charcoal, fired clay objects and painted plaster all the way down to the top of the marl. The marl slopes downwards to the south which could be either natural or because of human activity. The lower alluvium isn't completely clean and has a dark band in it. Water has started to come in from the base of the trench but doesn’t seem to be too serious.Entered By: Craig Cessford
