| Entry: | Beginning of the third week of excavation. Anwen has been moved from space 106 to space 108 which means work will continue in this area after lunch when Naomi works on finds . Mira continued to dismantle wall 51, taking brick and mortar samples both for flotation and for her own analysis. She got to use the new 'flagging' system for priority samples. She feels she's gaining a lot of information from exacavting the wall herself and as it's not holding us up (yet) we're all happy. All the wall plaster has been removed with the appropriate samples taken and the floors through the 'threshold of the openning have been half sectioned. This section shows a tip/slope/step down into space 107 too and appears to have an orangy clayey levelling deposit underlying floors (1084). Anwen is going to excavate these deposits tomorrow but I fear the section Wendy wants to sample is going to hold us up. Therefore during the primary use of this opening there was a step into both rooms? I worked mostly in space 107, caught up with some back log recording sheets and for the afternoon continued to excavate (1501) as Ali had to go to Cumra. Jon has been excavating (1505), layered ashy deposits lying on tip lines but was held up by a bone cluster (1507). Nurcan and Banu came up for the afternoon to draw the south facing elevation in space 106. Mary and Roddy continued to have trouble with (1506) that runs under both walls in the SW corner of space 105 and in the afternoon Mary began the elevation drawing of the east facing wall.
Ian was busy with the conservators this morning, although we're all rather concerned with what they're going to do and how much we may potentially lose, they area keen to work with us and are mindful of our requirements.They're going to attempt to lift the face of the west facing wall of 'shrine' 8 (section 38). Specialists on tour after tea was OK, they had al ook at various deposits under excavation followed by a discussion on what is meant by 'ritual'. It sounds as if we need to be mindful of our use of this word ie. as with a spiritual conotation or activities through conditioning or habit.
