Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Yesterday we continued with removing the mixed fill of space 228 which forms the western most room of building 45. This unit (10028) is the first fill of the space that we have taken off without recovering finds of post-Neolithic date suggesting that we are now dealing with more secure contexts. Towards the base of the fill, which lies above floor surfaces, the conentration of bone increases and a couple of groups were given X-finds because they seem to relate a specific depositional events and interestingly they were found just at the edge of a step in the platform (F.1410) at the southern side of the space. A few bones had been charred and these were found closest to one of the charred timbers suggesting that the bones were already present when the fire occured. I think that the fire may have travelled down the insitu timbers from a higher level so that Karl) came and had a look at the burning and should be making a seperate diary entry with his interpretations of the burning event.
By the end of the day we had almost removed the rest of 10028 and exposed the floor surface and platforms. I think that we are now inphase within space 228 but still chronologically later than the deposits to the western side of my area.Entered By: Lisa Yeomans
