| Entry: | Today was a 'wall' day in virtually all areas. We're determined to get the walls out by Thursday, started if not finished, but there are so many aspects of the walls to record and we're all at different stages. Roddy and Mary's wall is drawn in elevation, described, planned, digitised, ready to go apart from the stereo photography which wll be done this evening. However it's being held up by Jon's side of the wall which should be completely recorded by the end of tomorrow. The wall Mira is working on has almost gone but we're held up in there by the archaeology. Yesterday Anwen excavated a packing/levelling layer (1512) which overlay a series of earlier floors (1514), these were very flaky and patchy, therefore were being excavated as one unit. This morning Naomi continued in this patch and found a red surface. Covers a small area and is very patchy, it is also more like red ochre powder not paint, very different to the paint on the threshold step. This has now been left for Wendy to have a look at tomorrow as she returns from Kilisetepe tonight. Ismail and I excavated (1513) and have stopped on a clay layer that appears to be what Jon is coming down onto and also what Mary and Roddy have got. Nurcan has added the lower part of the west facing section on to last years section 34 in space 107. It wasn't a very clear section, the wall appears to be stepping down southwards and therefore cut (1502) does look real. We'll have to sort some of these problems out whilst digging the walls. Anwen has almost drawn the west facing wall of space 106, a truely horrid section to draw, lots going on, heavily eroded and nothing very clear. Poor Anwen keeps getting moved around but always very willingly. Jon drew the north and south fcing sections through what he took off as (1505), which comprised many tip lines. He is now excavating these layers individually starting with (1523). Roddy and Mary have gone back to excavating the 'midden' layers they had been working on before dealing with cut (1043). Unit (1523) therefore underlies (1520). They have also grouped the wall, the cut and its fill under feature 56. Mary hadn't been well all day but finally went to bed after lunch, her system has actually not been quite right since she arrived despite some drastic action. Ali was also out of action today having pulled a muscle or something so he worked on ground stone in the morning and took the conservationists to Cumra in the afternoon , they're held up now for a couple of days beacuase their stuff hasn't been made ( welding etc). Rissa and Louise gave us a talk on the sampling procedure for DNA on cattle bone during the specialists on tour session and low and behold Roddy took the first one just before lunch and got gold star for today!
