| Entry: | The following activities took place in spaces 112 and 231.
After closer analysis of wall 1701 it was decided that it was out of context. The bottom of the wall is approximately at the same level as the floors in spaces 231 and 112 - units 10806 and 10810 respectively. The wall abuts the western wall 267 but plaster runs from this wall onto f1701 and there is no plaster at the wall interface on 267 indicating that wall f1701 was probably not a later addition to the building but was in place from the earliest excavation. Likewise no floor layers were discerned beneath f1701.Wall 1701 was removed as unit 10822.
This means that space 231 was abolished at this level. The whole area was designated as space 112. This was considered wise because the strata excavated in 1997 were also designated as such. However it should be realised that this space 112 is a different larger space than in the occupation phases.
Given that two occupation phases were recognized in the 1997 season in the southern part of space 112 I tried to relate these to the are we are working in. It appears that the two main phases of the treshold between the two spaces - unit 10815 were related to these two occupation phases and these can also be followed in floor horizons along the eastern edge of space 112.
By contrast in space 231 only one floor horizon was recognized thus it seems that the northern room 231 was not renovated even though space 112 was.
The removal of the construction fill was continued in the northern part of the buildings as unit 10824.
In the southern extant part of space 112 the excavation of the fill of burial cut 10812 - cut 10811 was continued. In the west post retrieval pit 10817 was worked on. The plaster fill 10820 was largely removed. Below this another type of brown crumbly clay fill - unit 10823 was encountered that was partially excavated.Entered By: Bleda During |
