Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Rain, rain, go away...
This is the entry for Thursday, 15/07/04 and today (day off, but I thought a lot about what to do next). Thursday was a pretty busy day. The horn core was consolidated and came out (7828). As we were removing 7926, trying to find the floor, we came across and partially cut into some features. We changed unit numbers and began medium-tracking (7931).
WM came in and helped us out - which was a misunderstanding at first; she was meant to go into Emma's trench - she took some micromorph samples from our fill and immediately found not only another horn core (no unit # yet) but a number of feature lines (no unit #s yet). WM was extrordinarily helpful in showing us what we ought to be looking for. I was reminded once again of how great an advantage it is to have experts who have been digging here for many years.
The presence of yet more features turned out to be more confusing still. We seem to be down, now, on at least 5 different use levels just in the features, not counting the washes on the bin sides and the floors.
Friday, our day off, saw the tarp go up over our trench (finally!!) and rain storms. I am unsure of how to proceed tomorrow, if conditions are good enough to excavate. I would like to hold off on the fill and the features and expose the walls first, but am unsure if this will be possible. Perhaps the rain will have washed all the baulk off the walls for us?Entered By: UK
