Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: These plastered horn cores seem to be the focus of my attention lately. We had several discussions last night about the 'surface' that surrounds these horns (U. 7920\ 7940). We came to the conclusion that they came not embedded 'in' anything, based on their scattered and jumbled positions and the fact that they overlie fill. When I removed U.7941and came down upon a surface, we noticed that this surface had an edge and everything north of the edge was a 'surface' and everything to the south was fill (heterogeneous deposit with charcoal, small bone fragments and fallen bricks). So I went about removing the fill around the horns and the excavation confirmed our beliefs. I took out the fill to the back of the wall, which was still plastered. By the end of the day, the conservation team came in to consolidate the horns and will hopefully lift them in a day or two. It is getting very crowded in space 100! We had up to 11 people standing in there today and there was very little room left to work. All of our attention has been focused in the south west corner lately, with the burial and the horns.Entered By: SHL
