Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Most of the day was spent contemplating. We began removing some of the features but it went quite slowly, probably a result of some uncertainty of how to proceed. DGN continued in 7921, trying to define the wall from the inside and find a floor. SHL excavated 7953 over what we think is a burnt layer on or in a fire installation. I planned the east wall, took phytolith samples from our hearth (7948, 7951) and generally contemplated the subsequent order of events. SHL took out the basin fill (7950), which turns out to possible not be a basin at all but a truncated bin? We shall see. SF spent some time with us clarifying what we were seeing in Building 5, which has many of the same type of unclear basins. This will be my last diary entry for a few days; I am taking the weekend off and will be back on Monday.

Addendum: the new tracksng system was revealed - we were switched to "full-on", which left us confused for a long time. In the end, we turned out to not have to change anything in our sampling technique.Entered By: UK
