Entry: | Continuing the excavation of the infill of the room – unit 11109. The south part of the room is revealing different types of infill – for example the southwestern part of the room has a quite clean homogenous orangish light brown infill while a meter down the line in front of the central area of the southern wall it is quite dirtier – with ash and charcoal. These areas almost feel like floor… Emma made a nice cleaning on her side of the trench on the walls and unveiled the funny business that was taking place by the wall on my side. I was frankly avoiding this end of the wall because as we were following the plastered surface it would suddenly come to a halt towards the middle of the wall. I just did not understand what was going on and was speculating about a crawl hole or passage way to Emma’s side (yes, I know now it sounds far-off). But through her cleaning we noticed that the plaster ended and turned to infill because there was a actually an oven cut into the wall. Yes, and just where it should be. That solved a major issue. However, what started confusing me after that was how high this oven thing was – I was really expecting to hit floors at least another 10cm down. And then on the SW corner, at the end of the day we cam upon some discontinuous plaster… Well, I suppose this means that things are higher up than what I expected them to be and that’s just another reality in life.Entered By: Burcu Tung |
