Entry: | Stuck in the midden. Have been digging the midden deposits below B42 now for some days and finding it a little bit on the tricky side. Lots and lots of lenses and layers and discreet layers within layers ( Where has the comma gone? Still getting to grips with the Turkish keyboard.). Anyway interdigitation is what it's all about and these deposits just fade out and are interleaved with other material. It is totally representative of how these middens were formed; if basket loads of material were being thrown away they are not going to leave nice tip lines to follow. Heavy stuff rolls to the bottom stuff goes in different directions I'm constantly questioning whether I'm following the right deposits. It's a compromise a best attempt as we just follow broad bands or trends and so retain some sort of stratigraphic control. Still we are nearing the next building so hope remains. Also today we had a priority tour and discovered rather alarmingly that one of our supposedly Level VI midden deposits (11366) contained some Byzantine pot- Little bit of a worry .... we had a bit of a chat and as they were distinctive pieces worked out that they had come from the western edge of our area- which is heavily eroded and they were practically on the surface. Situation normal. Apologies for punctuation.Entered By: Simon McCann |
