Entry: An exciting day in the trench. Things seem to clear up a bit, and we are gradually getting a better hold of the bureaucracy of the dig. We are struggling to find the first floor of Building 10 and we are working through disturbed deposits around the oven. In the middle of the trench an area of approximately 2 x 2 m produces abundant pieces of plaster, some with bands of red colour. Some parts seem integral, and preserve their original shape. I recognise two distinct categories; pieces laying flat with multiple layers of remakings, and pieces laying in a vertical position. Those standing upright show two distinct remakings: the original one is very thin, the second has multiple layers of renewals. Both remakings lay on a substratum of moderatley hard grey clay. These pieces have distinctive curvilinear forms, but it is not possible to decide either their exact shape or their origin. Tentatively I would suggest that the flat pieces are traces of a plastered floor, while the vertical pieces come from a wall or a construction which has collapsed in the debris. Not from a great height, however, as that would have smashed the plaster into much smaller pieces. Conny and Evin examined the pieces. The day ended in strong east wind. The sound of the trees reminded me of the waves of the sea.Entered By: Kostas Kotsakis
