Excavation Diary Entry

Entry: Thought I'd better make a start on this, now that things are eventually underway on site now. Rather embarrasingly twisted my ankle first morning I got up to site (stepped on to site only for animal burrow to give way, good job it wasn't the badger burrow!), this after not getting to Catal till halfway through the season (was very ill- bad kidney infection). So dead keen to get digging but had to spend a couple of frustrating days with my foot up! Not good, am I having some sort of luck hiatus or something/ someone doesn't want me here!??
Anyway, Pete dug on the midden (s261) for several days and got that down, Dave has taken over now and removed the layers over the large deposit of burnt material which every one (well the specialists at any rate) are keen to get down to. However we now have what appear to be a series of pits cut into this burnt material and backfilled with midden, a similar kind of thing is being excavated on the 4040 area by Lisa and Rich, (they are level V, us level V or VI). So will be good to find out what that’s all about.
I've made a start on the western most part of B53 continuing with the excavation of Sp272 and have come down to an infant burial and made a start on that. This space has always been asumed to be part of B53 but while cleaning up the area there appears to be plaster and floors visible on the eroded southern side of wall F1527 possibly indicating a crawl hole, which would resolve the matter.
We should get B53 done this season and get away from the ridiculous amount of animal burrows, and embarrasing misshaps they cause!Entered By: Simon McCann
