Entry: Today was our second day on site, still continue in scraping Trench A and B at the West Mound. I worked in trench A, where we remove the first 10 cm of the topsoil (13701). In this layer there was lots of unstartified potsherds and obsidian. In the southeast quarter there was a fragment of a figurines head in this topsoil and ast two different we found some sherds standing in the soil. We have to look wether that might be depends on erosion or it is a vessel tomorrow, when we remove the next 10 cm of the soil. In the southwestern corner we found an ashy structure rectangular in shape (1x0,3m) and another round shaped ashy structure close to the first one. In the south of this two structures there is an orange structure, might be a mud brick wall or an oven, not clear to see in the actual state of excavation. I recognized other structres of a similar colour in the whole southern half of trench A. there were also some structures of a little bit looser soil, maybe pits or burials.
After removed the first cm of the topsoil we split the trench in four quarters and we are actually working in the northeast quarter. To see any structures we now dig out the next 10 to 20 cm (13702), a very hard soil layer. Some mud brick like structure were recognizeable, but I hope we see them in the planum after we finish the quarter.
At that state of excavation it is not possible to make a clear statement about the structures we already recognise.Entered By: CS
