| Entry: | All going well - for the first time it looks like we really will complete the excavation of Building 1 this season. Today's work: Engin, Mehmet and I excavated floors in Space 70 reaching ashy levelling material all over except for under platform 16 where there is a sunken plastered feature set into the sub-floor levelling. Wendy drew sections and took blocks from Spaces 70 and 71. Louise excavated plaster surfaces from the top of platform 13 exposing the cut for at least one grave - there will be many bodies under the platform, I'm sure. Tona and Jenis excavated burial 30 in Space 71 and burial 29 in Space 110 - both have complete adult bodies set amongst the re-arranged bones of earlier burials. Adnan excavated floors in the centre of Space 71 and cleared the grinding area, Feature 27 - the grinding stone had traces of red ochre on its underside and there are unusual obsidian flakes set into the top of the packing directly under the floors. Serap excavated floors in the SE corner of Space 71 while Gavin excavated the floors and packing of platform in SW corner of Space 71. We are reaching a uniform spread of grey ash across the building under the floors and we hope that this deposits represents the initial levelling material - but only a sounding next week will establish that.
