..hearth F.2911. This hearth wall had been partially demolished in preparation for the subsequent occupation phase leaving only a ‘crescent’ shaped wall standing 50mm high, 0.53m east-west and 0.30m northsouth and was constructed from a firm mid brownish grey sandy silt. This was filled with unit (15928), a firm mid brownish grey sandy silt measuring 0.50m east-west by 0.40m north-south and 50mm thick. There was evidence of scorching on the surface of this deposit as well as a spread of plaster in a crescent shape. Built up against the north of the hearth and continuing north, east and west in to the L.O.E was a laid floor surface (15930) made of compact light brownish cream fine sandy silt, up to 10mm thick. |
