F. 3625 is a wall in the southwestern part of building 108. It is connected to features 3626 as well as 3624. It is therefore likely contemporary with these walls.
2014 EXCAVATION SEASON:
The wall F.3625 constituted the western limit of B.108, (sp.501, 488). The partial execution of the feature that had been conducted in 2014 was involved with the arbitrarily established research area that embraced the northern segment of the mentioned building 108.
The wall comprised of 5 (in the northern part) and 4 (in the southern part) courses of bricks (U.22019) that were joint by the mortar (U.22020).
Most upper part of the wall (2 courses of Bricks) was shifted toward the east comparing its lower sector. During the excavation it appeared that the wall was placed directly on partially elevated western wall (F.7346) of the predecessor of B.77. It became obvious that the F.3625 as well as others within B.108 (F. 3624, 3627, 3626) are original foundations of the edifice. Their erection was preceded by performing the deep foundation trenches. The foundations as the lowest and supporting layer of the building must have resisted and transfer the vertical pressures generated by planned edifice of B.108. The constructionists realized that the structure requires footings that ensure stability against overturning as well as sinking into soft midden deposits. In the case of the wall F.3625 they reached the surface of the earlier wall (F.7346) surface that appeared to be proper enough to transfer the weight of above structure (B.108) directly to the ground. Described construction of the structure aimed to keep in steady state the structure on solid base avoiding weak layers of soft deposits (like midden). |
