Description:
Space 490 is a "midden" area located between B.77 and the B.52 context.

It was first defined and excavated in 2012. Further excavations in this space took place in 2015.

Its northern end is defined by the limit of excavation. This space represents the continuation of the use of space 489 and 488 in which the deposits reached a nexus where there they were no longer separated by standing walls F.3679 and F.3646. B.108 was built immediately above this space and its construction has removed direct evidence of it's boundaries. However, in the Neolithic the midden area would have covered the same area as B.108. The deposits likely abutted the walls of the B.52 complex - space 147 in particular as the removal of the walls and foundation walls of B.108 revealed black staining caused by charcoal and ash on the outer walls of space 147 thay is very likely related to midden deposits that once abutted these walls.
