Description:
The Space 625 refers to the area sealed by the midden deposits that had accumulated to the East of the B.139. The locale constituted in the past the western segment of the huge open/unroofed space whose Eastern extension had been assigned under two separate Space Numbers regarding the altitude and stratigraphical relationships (Upper Midden sequence –Sp.631, lower Middensequence - Sp.633). As such the Sp. 625 might be regarded as an arbitrary space which was allocated in order to accelerate the excavation process in the eastern part of the B.139 as well as to define the relationship between B.114, B132.
For these reasons the extent of the Sp.625 had been defined by several features that go as follows:
- To the West the clear restriction has been identified on an outline of the huge ditch F.8382 (cut-23147) that truncated the midden along its entire Western length, extended of NS alignment. Most plausibly the original restriction of the deposit to the west was set on the Eastern wall F.8387 of B.139 whose remnants had been revealed in the lower part of the strata. However, the mentioned mud-brick structure had been also truncated by the cut-U.23147.
- The Southern restriction of the U.23160 composed of the serial of collapsed walls F.8604, F.8607 that evidently limited the accumulation process of the lower strata (Units: 23160, 23634, 23645) of the waste material.
- The Northern limit had been allocated more arbitrarily due to the constrains of the time on a later wall running EW which was erected within the upper part of the midden.
- Alternatively, the Eastern limit corresponded with the position of the overlying E-wall F.7712 of the B.131. The NS alignment of the wall delineated further limit of the excavation within the area below the mentioned Building.
The main objective that stood behind the research conducted within the area was to define relationship between B.132 – 131, 139 – B.114, and extensive midden area to the East. Due to the time constraints in Season 2017 the work had been accelerated by excavation of arbitrary Units composed of the midden deposits. The first unit 23143 excavated in the space 625 was situated Below Eastern wall of B.131. It corresponds with the whole sequence of the midden deposits recorded in Eastwards Sp.631, 636. Next unit excavated in the locale was assigned as 23160 – the midden deposit was restricted partially to the South by the constructional elements and wall-features (F.8604, 8607) whose aims were related with retention purposes. One can assume that the U.23160 is the same as the midden-like deposits recorded within the sp.602 after the abandonment of B.132. Underneath midden 23160 there was other deposit of the same kind excavated under the number U.23634 . the Earliest midden deposit identified in the sequence U.23645 had not been excavated and the number had been allocated in order to accomplish the stratigraphical sequence and indicate new unit within the decreased research area which had been reduced to the West by the two wall-features F.8605 and 8606 that were recognized along the E-wall of B.139.
