Unit 10450
Category: skeleton dug in 2004
Area: South
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Cut heavily truncated by Mellaart excavations in 1960s as well as erosion, although much of the neonate/infant skeleton remains, allbeit in a poor condition. Grave cuts make-up layer (10448), a deposit in between plaster surfaces (10407)(10451) - an unusual feature and one which points towards a distinct relationship between the burial and replastering processes.
Much of the skeleton is very badly preserved, with salt and root disturbance likely to be the cause. X1, a whole shell found beneath the left ribs is also in fragmentary condition. White residue found within the shell. There were also 2 black stone (hematite?) beads found under the skull, possibly a necklace (X2).
Note: x,y for beads taken from the plan CAH 20/07/09
