Unit 11398
Category: Layer dug in 2005
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floor,room fill,roomfill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: occupation
Discussion: Layer noticed as uniform orange make up material with number of stones within deposit, some sitting on deposit and some poking through. Patches of grey make up material in places, also some plaster patches. Deposit most uniform in SE where it lips up onto southern and eastern walls. Pos surface of some sort.? Lips up to top of truncated wall F1527 where (11398) survives. On removal of SE part more stones revealed (not in photo).
It would appear to be a make up/ packing layer with stones placed beneath and within it, which is then smoothed off and up walls. So pos a surface or sealing of deposit. Significant deposit related to end life of this space 272, possibly a closure deposit.
(11399) below, not excavated this season appears to contain bone and stone and may be another element of this activity. Similar stone deposit in separate space in B44/B56? Roddy's area.
