Discussion: This is a preserved fragment of platform, which is part of Building 61 and it should probably be dated to phase II in the Mellaart sheme. The platform is built on horizontally placed four courses of mudbricks of different colour and covered by distinct layer of plaster, both on its horizontal and vertical surface.
A horizontal plaster is c. 2-2.5 cm thick and is composed of a sequence of tiny whitish strations followed by equally tiny light brownish strations. At a close inspection, each whitish stration appears to contain a few even smaller layers which indicate of numerous plastering events of this platform. One archive sample was taken from this plaster.
A vertical plaster is c. 1.5-2 cm thick and is composed of number of whitish and brownish stratins following each other. A sequence of the strations appears to be identical to the one observed on the horizontal paster on the platform. This platform surface might have been also repeatedly replastered. One archive sample was taken from this surface.
C. 1 cm thick dark brown/brown homogenous make-up layer was placed directly underneath the plaster. The same layer was observed under horizontal layer of plaster. It seems as if other surface of both horizontal and vertical platform was plastered at the same time as idicated by a coutious layer of plaster on both surfaces.
The platform was built of four cources of mudbricks of different size and colour. These are as follows:
(1) Top course: the course along the platform edge as seen from the North - dark grey mudbrick 0.68 x 0.14 x 0.09 m followed by dark brown irregular mudbrick fragment 0.44 x 0.19 x 0.05 m;
the outer course: irregular fragment of dark brown mudbrick 0.24 x 0.21 x 0.06 m.
(2) next course: the course along the platform edge as seen from the North 0.40 x 0.20 x 0.08 m (incomplete size due to younger trucation); mid brown brick 0.38 x 0.36 x 0.08 m (complete brick). The outer course in its preserved fragment is coposed of mid/dark brown brick 0.26 x 0.18 x 0.07 m.
(4) Bottom curse: the course along the platform edge as seen frm the North - mid brown brick largely truncated from the North which made it thinner 0.52 x 0.28 x 0.09 m. The outer course of this level had two preserved dark brown brick fragments: 0.40 x 0.30 x 0.08 m and 0.25 x 0.28 x 0.10 m.
The platform was preserved only in small fragment. It was badly truncated by various later events. The first considerable destructions occurred after the Building 61 abandnment during reparation of construction of Space 248. A large part was than truncated probably in a deliberate act of searching for valuable objects believed to be placed under the platform such as bucrania or human remains. Later destructionis coused by the Hellenistic occupation associated with digging - large pit that destroyed northern part of the platorm.
