Unit 14245
Category: Layer dug in 2007
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: top layer of grave fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: Last year (2006 excavation), assigned number 14205, now cancelled. This layer came down as the remainder of the grave fill in the upper part of the grave- This surviving layer peeled off nicely revealing a nice inside-wall of the grave, with a white (plaster?) covering on it. The fill is very mixed, having lots fo orange lumps of old mud brick, and also burnt clay mixed in. In addition, some iron nails were found, suggesting the grave itself has been disturbed. No 'grave-robbing cut' was visible at any point though during the excavation of the fill. After removal of the layer, the remaining of the fill appeared flat and level at the level of the lowest surviving mud-brick walls/lining the grave.
