Unit 16835
Category: Skeleton dug in 2008
Area: Trench 5
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: ER 23.7. 2008: While taking out mudbrick 15319 of feature 2420 (grave) baby bones were brushed out close to the south cut of 2420. More bones, probably the lower body, seem to stick under the mortar of EC wall feature 2424.
I see ribs, a scapula, Utku sees a upper arm, but no skull. This part will be sent to anthropology on the 23/7, rest will be dug later.
ER 10/08/08: yesterday started to dig into a greyish patch of soil in 16896 that was initially thought to be grave fill, or something similar. Exposed skull, but some parts continued under 16896 rubble pieces. See discussion of 17229. No legs were located.
Drawing of position of skeleton found on unit continuation sheet (2 of 2). Appears to be lying on right side. Facing south. Hand (L?) found south of maxilla. No lower limbs seen, but arms probably were flexed, so guessing whole skeleton may have been flexed at some point.
