Unit 17294
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: floor
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: NS 2.4m, EW 1.65m, thickness 2-7cm
Discussion: 17294 represents a floor covering space 345 and connecting to the walls around it. Some parts of 17294 are disturbed by animal burrows, especially towards the walls, but it is mostly well preserved.
Its upper surface wall quite flat, slightly higher in the center of the room. During removal, it was not noticed that its thickness varies considerably, between 1-5cm, as 17294 apperantly was made to flatten out the undulating fill under it. Sherds 17287 were lying on the floor, and a second layer 17277 was found on top of it in the center.
17294 was made from crumbly, dry green-grey clay with many pores. 17277, from white marl, peeled quite well from it.
